AMBASSADOR PROJECTS
Beach Clean Up
Throughout Wilmington, the beaches are cherished and are viewed as places for our community to adjoin with one another. I believe that beaches should be clean and accessible to everyone, which is why I chose to organize a beach clean up involving many of my peers and myself, at Wrightsville Beach.
Climate Change's Effect on Medicine
Climate change is something that will impact our world in ways more than one. One way it will impact our world is through medicine. Pediatrics is a field that isn’t as fleshed as other fields, due to it being more unexplored. There are a lot of things about children that are undiscovered, which makes it important to think about how much climate change affects them in particular. Climate change’s effects on medicine in general isn’t really a topic that is thought about, so when it comes to pediatrics, there is probably even less information. In order to find some answers, two doctors were interviewed for their standpoint on climate change. A similar set of questions was asked to each doctor and their responses were very insightful.
Clothing Drive
Fast fashion has been a growing industry for the past couple of decades, and consequently, there have been many concerns raised by this mass increase in consumption by the public. Not only does this industry support forced and inhumane labor, but it also reinforces the idea of consumerism. As a way to combat this issue, I decided to host a clothing exchange with my environmental club. This would support the idea to reuse and recycle clothing rather than throw them away.
Environmental Education Newsletter (UC Berkeley)
This month’s newsletter covers a total of three topics: Indigenous sovereignty, global
waste circulation, and clothing waste and its impacts. Each section has its own unique writing style and format, reflecting the works of our three columnists. These pieces are not meant to shame anyone in any way; and we hope that those who take a read will formulate their own opinions and takeaways on these issues. We hope you explore this newsletter with a willingness to learn, just as we had while
writing and editing this newsletter. We hope you enjoy our first newsletter!
Environmental Justice Training
In conjunction with the Native American Student Development Center (NASD), the Associated Students of the University of California, Office of Student Senator Madapoosi (Eco Office) hosted a screening of the documentary “Beyond Recognition” as well as a Q and A session with Antônio Bastida, the assistant director at NASD.
Invasive Species Dig
For this live event, I organized an invasive species dig were students on campus were able to participate in the removal of harmful plant life around the area.
Solar PV Cell Fundraiser
In August 2021, NC GreenPower selected certain schools around the state that were eligible for PV installations, one of them being John T. Hoggard High School. However, this was not a free project; there was a total of $9,000 that needed to be raised for this installation. To me, this was an opportunity to take initiative, to be a leader, and to amplify the usage of renewable energy forms such as solar.
